FROM the pen of Senior Librarian Wolham,
TO the eyes of the Illustrious Henry Plagent, Master Librarian of the Luddon Archives and Lord Teacher as Appointed by the High Seat of the Guild,
ON this ninety-seventh day of the fifth year of Expanding Limits,
OR the year 219 of the Guild Calendar.
I was recently informed of the impending visit of a Guild Reader scheduled to arrive from Rho’vaa in the coming weeks. As you are certainly aware, he is an Eladrin who is proud of his heritage and tends to be less courteous to the Brethren than some would perhaps find appropriate.
Naturally I became concerned regarding some of our brethren who have only just recently finished their novitiates. Most notable in my eyes are the Dragonborn Tatsu, who is prone to brawling, and the Eladrin who has forsaken his name, his people, and his history; the one other novices either called The Pro or, if they didn’t like him, the Grue, after the legendary creature whose face has never been seen. It is the Eladrin who worries me; few in the Library know that he has been cast out, or has cast himself out, from Eladrin society, and no Eladrin can or will bear to have civil discourse with him. I fear that if the Reader discovers the presence of Grue he may take drastic measures to “correct” our Library.
It also occurs to me that our Cambrian issues have yet to be resolved. The Library there has requested even more funds on top of the veritable torrent that we have been sending them for the past several years, and they have yet to send us even a single report of any substance.
It seems to me that Grue and Tatsu are unusually suited to deal with this issue, and it would remove them from our Luddon Library while the Reader is visiting. Grue certainly has the Thirst that we look for in promising novices, and Tatsu has a way of finding and extracting that which is hidden, often by methods no other member of the Guild would even think of.
In summary, I humbly suggest that we elevate both of them to the rank of Cartographer, form them into a Compass of Knowledge, and charge them to investigate the status of the Agleburg Library with the additional charge to Map, Classify, and Report whatever they may find in the region.
We may need to assign one or more other members of the Brethren to this new Compass, in order to guide these new Cartographers and see that they uphold the standards and reputation of our Illustrious Guild.
Senior Librarian and Humble Servant of Knowledge,
